Having a DJ at your wedding is no longer a choice just to save money. DJs can offer a wider variety of music selections and styles that a live band sometimes cannot accommodate. So, here are some good questions to ask when interviewing a DJ:
1. Ask about the DJs presentation. Ask them to explain how they will handle the details of the introductions, first dance, cake cutting, bouquet & garter and special requested dances. You want to be comfortable with the DJs style and personality.
2. Ask what he or she will be wearing. Some DJs wear tuxedos
but dont count on it unless you ask.
3. Ask if the DJ will need to be provided a meal during the reception. Remember, it is your responsibility to provide them with a meal if they want one -- a hungry DJ is not a happy DJ!
4. Ask about the DJs start and end times. Does the price include music during the cocktail hour and/or during dinner?
5. Ask about song selections. Can you choose from a song list. Can you choose a "no play" song list. Does the DJ have a wide variety of song selections. Can the DJ play songs to suite the tastes of ALL your guests (maybe two or three generations).
6. Ask how many CDs the DJ will bring to the event. They may tell you that they have a collection of over 1,000 CDs but they may only bring 200 to the event.
7. Make sure you ask who will be performing at your wedding. If you are working with a DJ service, ask to meet with the DJ ahead of time.
8. Ask about equipment. A DJ should have professional sound equipment - not "home consumer" gear. Be sure that the DJs speakers and sound system will accommodate your reception location. (loud enough BUT NOT overpowering!).
9. Will you provide back-up equipment in case of an emergency at our event?
10. How long have you been a Disc Jockey?
11. Do you have at least three references?
